While waiting for our January figure order to arrive from AmiAmi I thought I’d take a few photos of a figure I picked up last year while I was in Japan. Erio was CM’s Corporations 2011 Summer Wonder Festival exclusive and an impulse buy that I purchased at the event. I somehow managed to cart her back to Australia in my suitcase without breaking her.. which was no small feat considering she’s made from polyresin!
Touwa Erio is from Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko which is a light novel with both anime and manga adaptations. Luth and I both really enjoyed the anime and I’d recommend it to anyone into SHAFT shows.
First up, this figure isn’t a very accurate representation of Erio. She looks slightly older and not quite as cute. I wouldn’t have ordered her online, especially considering I’d need to pay proxy fees on top of an already fairly expensive retail price of 7800 yen. Saying that, I’m not entirely unhappy with her and she looks pretty good from some angles. She’s 140 mm tall and around 1/8 scale.
The good angles I’m talking about certainly aren’t from front on! Her hair and body don’t look bad but her eyes and mouth do. The mouth is a personal preference.. I just don’t like mouths like that on figures. The eyes, however, look a bit odd. I realize that they have been done like that so it looks good from a side angle but I think a figure should be viewable from any angle.
But damn, she’s got some adorable feet. I want more barefoot figures.. toes are so cute.
Erio’s red ribbon sticks straight out at the front and looks pretty strange. It’s a tiny, delicate thing that you need to put on yourself by removing Erio’s head and sliding it around her neck. It’s made from resin and yes, I broke it while I was putting it on. Thankfully, CM’s Corporation have provided a spare in the box.
Her ahoge also needs to be plugged into a hole at the crown of her head. It’s not nearly as delicate as the ribbon but there has also been a spare provided just in case!
Erio’s face looks a bit rough close up, certainly a bit rougher than a mass produced PVC figure but it’s not too bad at a normal viewing distance. Mine came with a few too many nicks around the front of her hair.
The base she comes with is just a simple round black circle and she attaches to it via a hole in her knee. I think it looks a tad clunky so I prefer to display her without it since she has no balancing problems off her base.
Erio’s box is cute with the UFO design and in line with the series.
I don’t regret purchasing her although I probably wouldn’t again if I suddenly went back in time and found myself back in front of CM’s booth, haha. Luth and I are still on the look out for an Erio figure we both really like but sadly we haven’t come across one yet. Maybe we’ll just have to be happy with this Erio!

hehe I agree, the feet look especially nice on this Erio.
Its hard to find the right figure from a character that you really like, I rarely buy figures from anime characters I like, cause I can be really picky ^^
Maybe the Erio from Plum would be something for you?
Plum is not very popular, but they improved since the strange Nymph figure they had made.

Yeah, I think she looks good from that side too. I prefer viewing her from a higher angle too cause it makes it look like she’s peeking out from under her fringe too.. it’s kinda cute
Our favourites must look perfect! I don’t have many problems with Saber figures though.. probably ’cause there are so many out there, haha.
I thought about Plum’s Erio and I think she’s the best currently up for order but for some reason I don’t like her closed eye. She looks lovely apart from that!

Ah I know how you feel about wanting a good Erio figure…For now it looks like Plum’s one is the front runner for me. Waiting to see if that one is actually cast-off because those seam lines otherwise wold be a pretty huge turn-off…

Yes, I must agree as well that her feet look very cute. I think there were a lot of scenes like that in the anime too since she was mostly bare foot.
Her face does look a little off but I’m not as bothered by the eyes. To me it seems like she’s just squinting or something haha.
Resin figures sound very troublesome, and I don’t see any real differences in quality from PVC ones. Is there any upside to them?
Also, in a very Towa Erio fashion she looks like she’ll fall out of her clothes any minute.

You know, I don’t think I can remember Erio with shoes on. Maybe I don’t want to remember her with shoes on, lol.
I wrote some really nasty things about the eyes but ended up softening it a bit since it doesn’t look so bad in the photos. I’m also just really fussy!
I can’t really see an upside and I won’t be going out of my way to get another. She was hard to shoot because she was so damn fragile.. she felt like she’d break even if I looked at her the wrong way, bah!
It wouldn’t be Erio if her clothes fit, haha

The figure doesn’t look too bad to me, but it’s definitely not the best out there. I do like the paint job on her skirt though.
I bought my first resin figures not too long ago and I can now understand when people say they’re worried about it breaking. Both of mine were broken when they arrived

Nopy, I never noticed until I read your comment! I can’t not see it every time I look at her now, lol.
Her skirt is actually painted flat but the sculpting is quite nice and gives it a lot of shadows.
Oh no, sorry to hear it was broken! I was very surprised that this one didn’t break on me and I’m glad it didn’t.. I would have made a complete mess trying to fix it.
Not a bad depiction of Erio, looks a little rough up close but it looks alright. I agree with the bit about the eyes, kinda dislike it when figures are made to look good from only one angle, they should look good from all views if possible.
The one thing I do dislike is the fact that is made of resin, I wonder why manufactures chose to do it rather than PVC. After reading about Nopy’s recent experience with resin I’m really distrustful of it.

Yeah, absolutely.. although GSC’s Hitagi has this issue a bit and I still love her. Maybe I’m being a bit harsh with this poor Erio, lol.
CM’s do PVC too so I have no idea why they went with resin. It seems like it’s be harder to produce too? Not that I know anything about resin production, haha.

She looks older (and still pretty) in this figure. Paint is a little rough (especially on the hair), but i like the pose XD
